News and Testimonials

JCP Engineers are pleased to offer its support to The Africa Trust and feel blessed to have helped fund an Elephant Pump.

“Photos such as these always make us smile. When we have a customer such as JCP Engineers who show such interest in the progress of their Elephant Pump being built, our smiles become grins. Thanks very much, JCP Engineers, your participation is literally changing the lives for this community.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Kate Rogers as a Director of JCP as of May 2016. Kate has worked with us previously as a Structural Engineer and is looking forward to driving the company forward in her new role.

JCP Engineers are pleased to announce that their party to celebrate 25 years was a huge success.
We would like to thank all who attended the event and hope that the next 25 years is as successful.

We recently took part in Spire FM's bring £1 to work day in aid of The Stars Appeal and were surprised with a visit from the Spire FM team!

The Stars Appeal is Salisbury District Hospital's charity (no.1052284). They raise money to create the best possible experience for patients and their families by funding extra care and equipment over and above that provided by the NHS. They work hard to help local people across all wards and departments , with particular focus on cancer , cardiac care and children . http://www.starsappeal.org/
We would like to say a huge well done to one of our clients who recently undertook a 230 mile cycle trip from London to Brussels via Calais and Bruges to raise money for the Alzheimers Society. JCP were only too happy to make a donation to this worthwhile cause. Alzheimer's Society is the leading UK care and research charity for people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, their families and carers. To find out more about fundraising for the Society log on to www.alzheimers.org.uk or you can donate via Kevin’s just giving page www.justgiving.com/Kevin-Mosley55

JCP Engineers are pleased to announce a new member to our team! We have adopted Phyllis, a Female King Vulture currently in the care of the Hawk Conservancy in Andover. She arrived at the Trust in May 2010 to be paired with our male King Vulture. She came from Zoo d' Amneville in France and was born in 1985. She is a good match for our male who is genetically important in the breeding program. However whilst he seems very interested in getting to know her better. She seems more intent on getting to know the staff. On a positive not she has not tried to attack the male and we hope that once they settle in we might see some reproductive behaviour and maybe even a vulture chick next year.
The Hawk Conservancy’s mission is the conservation of birds of prey, please take the time to find out more at
www.hawk-conservancy.org. Thank you.

On the 8th of June 2014 our up and coming Structural Engineer Alex Thompson completed the Durrington triathlon challenge taking part in a 400m swim, 11 mile bike ride and finally a 3 mile run.

Alex said "the triathlon was a challenging and fun experience, being able to support local charity Lucy's Days out while doing this was wonderful. The atmosphere was lively with a great sense of community.

It is definitely something I would do again and hope to encourage the other members of JCP to join in next time".

Well done Alex, from all the team!

Lucy's Days Out is a small but important charity supporting local children.

Lucy's Wish...

Lucy Page was a bright, happy young girl who had lived with cancer a long time and treasured all her special days out.

When Lucy knew her cancer was untreatable, she asked her family to set up a charity in her memory. Lucy decided she would like families living with serious illnesses to enjoy special outings like the ones she had enjoyed.

To give a child a reason to smile is such a rewarding thing, also as a family it is a heart-warming experience to have a fun day amongst many dark days of hospital visits.

Lucy was very courageous and designed the title and logo, along with the charity aims, herself.

Take a look at their website http://www.lucysdaysout.org

JCP recently had our Local Radio station Spire FM pop in for a surprise cuppa whilst visiting local businesses. Engineer Charlie Blake gave an impromptu interview. Great way of receiving free advertising. Thanks Spire!

Thank you again for all your help, you've been a pleasure to deal with.

CDM 2015 : What domestic clients need to do

A domestic client is someone who has construction work done on their home or the home of a family member which is not in connection with a business, unlike CDM2007 domestic clients have duties under CDM 2015.If you are about to alter or extend your house or buildings, building something new or demolishing the existing then the new regulations place a number of duties on you as a construction client, the extent of these duties varies with the types of project.

On projects that are likely to involve more than one contractor you are required to appoint a Principal Designer before significant detailed design work starts so that they can advise and assist you with your health and safety duties and plan, manage, monitor and co-ordinate the health & safety of the pre-construction phase of the project.

A principal designer is a designer (architect, building surveyor or engineer) who can demonstrate to you that they have the knowledge, skill and experience of CDM2015 and understands the process of design risk management. When you are talking to a designer about your project you should check that they have the capability and experience to carry out the work for you. A designer must be a member of one of the following design institutions – ARB, RIBA,RIAS,CAIT, RICS, IStructE etc and to undertake the role of Principal Designer should have an accreditation in health & safety risk management or can provide evidence of having undertaken training in CDM2015.

The regulations recognise that as the client, you hold the power to influence and control the contractors you engage or appoint and therefore that the ultimate responsibility for the achievement of a safe and healthy project is in your hands as much as theirs. There are two types of construction projects, projects with only one contractor and projects that are likely to involve more than one contractor. Where the project involves only one contractor client duties must be carried out by the contractor as well as their own duties. If the project will require more than one contractor you must appoint a Principal Designer to oversee the preconstruction phase and a Principal Contractor to oversee the construction phase.
These appointments must be made as soon as practicable and before the construction phase.

On the 9th of June Charlie and Tom completed their triathlon challenge taking part in a 400m swim, 11 mile bike ride and finally a 3 mile run, in doing so they have raised an amazing £434.99 for Sebast ia n's Action Trust.

"£434.99 is an amazing amount of money raised and it will most certainly make a difference to Sebastian’s Action Trust.

Each year we aim to give 100 children and their families a crisis break at The Bluebells, with a further 500 children being able to use its extensive leisure facilities for single day visits. We are inundated with requests for breaks at The Bluebells and although our initial intention was to support families in the south of England, principally in Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, Bucks and Oxfordshire, we have attracted visitors from every corner of the United Kingdom, which reinforces our belief that the service we offer is highly sought and desperately needed.

We really appreciate your continued support and know that although we are a relatively small charity, our work does make a significant difference to those who face an uncertain future. Thank you once again for your donation and we hope you will continue to monitor our progress in the future".

We are an Architectural practice in Andover. We have used J.C.P. for 13 years now, for all our structural requirements. No matter what the scheme or problem, we always received a prompt, professional and friendly service, from all the staff. It is very reassuring to know that they are only a phone call away from those on site problems and difficulties. Their input in to our architectural designs is hugely valuable.
